Specialized Training Program Marine Pollution Response during Armed Conflicts

Specialized Training Program Marine Pollution Response during Armed Conflicts

This curriculum provides a comprehensive, action-oriented framework designed to prepare responders to effectively manage marine pollution incidents in high-risk, conflict-affected environments. Armed conflicts significantly escalate the risk of large-scale, transboundary pollution - such as oil spills from struck tankers or chemical leaks from targeted infrastructure - while simultaneously weakening institutional capacity and restricting access for traditional response teams. Therefore, integrating environmental response with security imperatives is essential for protecting fragile marine ecosystems and ensuring regional environmental security.

Through eight integrated modules, participants gain both theoretical understanding and practical skills in conflict-sensitive risk mapping, multi-agency coordination, and the use of innovative monitoring technologies. The curriculum combines classroom learning and technical workshops with advanced simulations, tabletop exercises, and practical fieldwork to ensure actors are operationally ready under the volatile real-world conditions of modern warfare.
