RESPONSE is a cross-national, three-year project (01/10/2023 – 30/09/2026), supported by the European Union through the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). RESPONSE focuses on developing and testing new training schemes and curricula to enhance the preparedness and response capacity of key stakeholders in case of marine pollution incident, through strengthening critical aspects such as monitoring, reporting, management, operational planning, with special emphasis on pollution resulting from armed conflicts.
Driven by the societal needs of stakeholders across the Black Sea region, RESPONSE promotes a co-creation approach to shape a flexible and forward-looking training framework. This collaborative process enables the development of advanced, practical training pathways that reflect real-world challenges and institutional demands.
The project contributes to building capacity at all levels by improving access to structured training plans and enhancing the skills of professionals engaged in marine pollution preparedness and response. The co-created curricula integrate the latest ICT tools, offering modular and scalable programs suitable for different contexts and user groups. These efforts culminate in the development of the RESPONSE Digital Toolkit, a central resource to support operational readiness and long-term resilience.
The RESPONSE Digital Toolkit serves as a comprehensive, user-oriented platform designed to support training providers, authorities, educators, and other stakeholders in building tailored marine pollution response programs. It consists of two main components:
· A library of pre-designed (core) curricula, offering ready-to-use training modules complete with materials that can be easily adapted and deployed in national and regional contexts.
· A Curriculum Builder, a dynamic tool that allows users to generate customized training pathways based on specific criteria—such as marine pollution type, thematic focus or target audience.
By combining content accessibility with smart customization, the RESPONSE Digital Toolkit empowers stakeholders to design effective, relevant, and high-impact training schemes—supporting a more coordinated and capable response to marine pollution challenges in the Black Sea basin and beyond.
